The Battle of Britain resounds through the years as one of the defining moments of recent British history.

On 18th June 1940 after the evacuation of Dunkirk the newly elected WinstonChurchill gave his famous speech 'The Battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin. 'The Battle commenced in earnest shortly after, on July 10th 1940, when the Luftwaffe attempted to gain control of the Straits of Dover in what they codenamed operation 'Sealion'. Over the months that followed 2,353 young men from Great Britain and 574 rom overseas answered the challenge to contest the mastery of the air. The skies over southern England became their fighting arena in what was to become the most decisive battle of WWII and the only battleever to be fought entirely in the air. The Battle culminated on 15th September after a heavy attack on London, RAF Fighter Command claimed victory over the Luftwaffe reporting big losses for theenemy. Now known as Battle of Britain Day it became the turning point of WWII, only three days later Hitler cancelled operation Sealion.
