Without a doubt, the Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most iconic aircraft in British military history. The elegant and agile single-seat fighter was the brainchild of Supermarine's chief designer Reginald Joseph Mitchell.
Equipped with immense firepower and a high top speed, the Supermarine Spitfire was one of the decisive factors that made the Battle of Britain a success for the Royal Air Force, and became a symbol of British spirit and resistance. Today, there are only 240 Spitfires left worldwide and of these only 60 are airworthy. They can be seen at major airshows, WWII events and State occasions like Trooping the Colour.
