Item desciption
1936, known as 'The Year of the Three Kings', is the year, that made Elizabeth II successor to the throne. Without the events of 1936, she would just have been a cousin to the king or queen, and the history of our country and Europe might have been different indeed:

King George V died on January 20th, just one year after his Silver Jubilee and was succeeded by his eldest son Edward VIII. Ever popular as a prince, Edward however was in love with an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson and in October, against the wishes of his family, he chose love before the throne. Edward's abdication was announced just eleven months into his reign, on December 11th, and he was immediately replaced by his brother and father of young Elizabeth, George VI.
