'The Kings and Queens of Europe' Complete Set

Europe's kings and queens did not only determine the destiny of our European countries - they ruled over large parts of the whole world. During the time of Queen Victoria's reign, the British Empire was the largest empire in history and covered 24% of the world's territory with 412 million people, almost a quarter of the world population.

Monarchy was the predominant form of government in the history of Europe throughout the Middle Ages and into the 19th century. It was only at the end of the First World War, when most of the European monarchies were abolished. Today, only 12 sovereign monarchies remain in Europe.
