Flavius Valerius Constantinus, also known as Constantine the Great or Constantine I, was Roman emperor from 306 to 337. He was responsible for initiating the Constantinian Shift, in which Christianitywas first tolerated in the Roman Empire, but went on to increase in importance. Constantine also moved his seat of residence from Rome to Byzantium, or Istanbul as it is known today. The new capitalwas initially given the name New Rome but this was soon changed to Constantinople.
Struck by hand more than 1600 years ago, only a few of these coins still remain. Beautifully preserved andbearing the portrait of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, each bronze coin is truly unique. No exact double can be found anywhere in the world!
