'Hot Springs and Yellowstone' National Park Quarter Dollars

This set features the first two National Park Quarters from the America the Beautiful Quarter Dollar Program. The Hot Springs Quarter from the state of Arkansas was the first coin to be issued in the series, released on 19th April 2010. The reverse depicts the Hot Springs National Park headquarters building with the National Park Service emblem to the right of the door and a thermal fountain in the foreground. The Yellowstone National Park Quarter from Wyoming was released on 1st June 2010 and is the second coin in the series. The reverse depicts two of Yellowstone's most famous icons - the Old Faithful geyser and an American Bison. The obverse of each coin in the series depicts the portrait of George Washington, as used on the 1932 Washington Quarter Dollar.

Under the program, five new quarters will be released each year by the United States Mint. Each Quarter honours a National Park or National Site from each of the 50 States, as well as one from Washington DC and one from each of the five US Territories. The Quarters will be issued in the order that the parks were deemed a National Site. The Hot Springs Quarter was the first coin to be issued inthe series as it was designated a National Site on 20th April 1832 and predated the establishment of National Parks. The Yellowstone Quarter was the second coin in the series as Yellowstone was the first US National Park - established in 1872.
