Florence Nightingale - the "Lady with the Lamp" adorned the Series D £10 note from 1975-1994, reproduced here on this unique commemorative strike in perfect miniature detail. Born in 1820 FlorenceNightingale is most remembered for her work tending to the wounded during the Crimean War. In 1860 she founded the first school of nursing. Her example inspired Henri Dunant to establish the Red Crossin 1864.
