'Advent Calendar'

It's our favourite time of the year again - everyone is looking forward to the festive season. Christmas is an important Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Advent calendars are not only a special treat for children to countdown the days till Christmas, as this year grown-up collectors can also have something to look forward to each day too, the perfect way to make the festive season even more special!

The origin of the Advent calendar dates back to the 19th Century, when German Protestants made chalk marks on doors or lit candles to count the days tillChristmas. The first printed Advent calendar was created in the early 1990s by Gerhard Lang, his calendar had 24 spaces for little coloured pictures, inspired by one his mother had made for him.It was only some decades later, when the calendars featured doors with chocolates hidden behind.

Windsor Mint is delighted to take up this cherished tradition and offer it to our customers. Our advent calendar hides one numismatic treasure behind each of its 24 little doors - you can look forward to many surprises, especially assembled for British collectors, like the two rare strikes shown below. We wish you a merry Christmas!
