'10 Shilling Banknote' Commemorative Strike

For those of us that remember the good old days of pounds, shillings and pence, it hardly seems possible, but it was now almost 50 years ago, when on 15 February 1971 we lost centuries oftradition as our currency went decimal, and our beloved '10 bob' note disappeared forever. First issued in 1928, over the last ever 10-shilling note to be issued by the Bank of England was the Series C note - also known as the portrait series - this was the only 10 shilling note ever issued by the Bank of England to feature a portrait of a reigning monarch. Reddish brown in colour it depicted a youthful portrait of the Queen wearing the diamond diadem.

Affectionately known as 'ten bob' or 'half a nicker' the 'Series C' 10 shilling note has been immortalised forever and reproduced in precise colour detail on a unique commemorative strike, precioulsy layered with 24-carat gold and struck in highest minting quality 'PROOF'.
