Item desciption
In 1995, the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar introduced a new series of banknotes which bore the words 'Pounds Sterling' for the very first time, rather than just 'Pounds' as per previous issues. Each denomination in the 1995 series featured an official portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

The obverse of the 1995 £10 Gibraltar banknote portrays HM Queen Elizabeth II, with the Gibraltar Coat of Arms and an image of the Lighthouse at Europa Point. The banknote also features the famous Koehler Gun, which was invented 1782 by Lieutenant Koehler during the Great Siege of 1779-1783. The Koehler Gun’s depression carriage was able to fire cannonballs down at a steep angle onto the enemy lines below the great Rock, and so it became an essential line of defence for Gibraltar during the Great Siege.

The official 1995 £10 banknote, issued by the Government of Gibraltar, has been immortalised forever and reproduced in precise detail on this 24-carat gold-plated commemorative strike.
