The National Aeronautics and Space Administration was established in 1958 to "boldly expand frontiers in air and space". In 1961, President John F. Kennedy put forth an incredible challenge to land a man on the moon within the next 10 years. Eight years later on July 20, 1969 Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the lunar surface. This event ushered in a new era of exploration and achievement.
