2007 marks the 25th anniversary of liberation of the Falkland Islands, following Argentina's invasion in April 1982. First discovered in 1592,the archipelago of the Falkland Islands, in the South Atlantic, remains one of Britain’s longest-standing overseas territories. Comprising some 200 islands spread over 12,000 km2 the islands have a population of fewer than 3,000 residents, consequently only an extremely small quantity of Falkland Island coins are minted each year.
